Marian and Jane bring several decades of experience working in and with industry and business and the voluntary sector.  Marian and Jane met at university in Cambridge, where they shared an interest in social issues and a general curiosity about how organisations work.

They then took different paths – Marian in branding, advertising and market research, first with Procter and Gamble in brand management, then living in Istanbul as a Marketing Manager.  She later became a Board Director in B&MR, a north of England SME and a Senior Vice President at Harris Interactive a global top 15 research agency. Marian has an MBA from Manchester Business School and is a member of the Market Research Society. She is also an accredited Executive Coach.

Jane began her career in journalism, as an international business and industry correspondent for a US news service. She spent several years living and working in Russia after the break-up of the Soviet Union. She later worked in the oil and gas industry for Shell, managing environmental and social impact assessments and public consultation. She has been an independent consultant since 2003, working mainly in industry for clients such as BP and AMEC, before expanding into third and public sector work in 2007.

Marian and Jane’s first professional collaboration was on a ground-breaking social perceptions study/impact assessment for BP in Russia in 2006. They then teamed up to develop impact assessment methodology for WRVS, a major UK charity, drawing on their industry and business experience to do so. They conducted WRVS’s first impact assessment in 2008. The success of this transformative study led Marian and Jane to create Public Aspect in 2009.
